Hamlet By William Shakespeare: The Impact Of Parents On Their Children

James Baldwin said: “Children don’t listen to their parents very well, but when they do, they imitate. Parents play an important role in their child’s development. How parents raise their children will determine what they become in the future, whether it’s good or bad. Hamlet, by Shakespeare, shows us this many times. One example is Hamlet’s desire for revenge after the death of his father. Hamlet and his mother’s relationship is also an example of how this led to their deaths.

Hamlet’s hatred for Claudius as a result of finding out that Claudius had murdered Hamlet’s father, is a great example. Laertes strong relationship with Polonius is what shapes him as a person. He chooses revenge on Hamlet to avenge his father’s murder over Hamlet. Ophelia dies because of her one-sided relationship to Polonius. A parent’s choice can influence their child and make it difficult to make a rational decision. Hamlet loves and respects the father he was born to. After learning that the king’s death was not an accident, but a murder and not merely a tragic accident, Hamlet’s attitude and life changed dramatically. “So good a ruler; that was Hyperion compared to a sadyr. My mother loved him so. This quote shows Hamlet’s impression of the king. He compares Hyperion to a satyr and calls the king an “excellent ruler”. Hamlet’s words and the king’s trust in Hamlet to seek revenge for the death of his father show that Hamlet and his king share a good, balanced relationship. Hamlet was transformed from an innocent, good man into a man obsessed with revenge. If he had a better relationship with his dad, he would not be so obsessed. There will never be anything more special than mother-son love. ” This quote was not written by the author, but is still true. Hamlet is increasingly upset and angry at his mother as the story progresses. She marries Claudius in just one month, which was his father’s younger brother. He could never replace the love he had for her, regardless of how angry he felt. Gertrude also loved her child so much that she refused to obey her husband’s and the King’s orders and drank poison in honor of her boy, poisoning her and killing herself. Gertrude may not have done so if there was no strong bond between her and Hamlet. Claudius, who was Hamlet’s uncle, murdered his own brother, married his brother’s widow, and became Hamlet’s dad. Hamlet is enraged by the news that Claudius has poisoned Hamlet’s father. This is shown in “O villain! O villain! Hamlet then stabs Claudius in the back of the arras when he hears an angry voice. Hamlet mistakenly thought that Claudius was speaking and killed Polonius right there. Hamlet wouldn’t have been bothered by the murder of his biological dad if they didn’t have a good relationship. In effect, Hamlet wouldn’t have mistakenly killed Polonius.

Claudius became agitated after Hamlet threatened him. He then took part of the plan to kill Hamlet. Gertrude was killed, and Hamlet died. Hamlet might not have felt threatened by Claudius if Hamlet hadn’t killed him. This would have led to Hamlet poisoning his wife, Gertrude, and ending with Hamlet’s death. Claudius may not be Hamlet’s father. This can lead to a relationship based on jealousy over Gertrude. Polonius’s son is known as being a respectful and loving father. Polonius is so concerned about Laertes’s well-being that he sends Reynaldo as a spy to follow him around Paris. Laertes’ only desire is to avenge the death of his father after Hamlet made a mistake and Polonius died accidentally. “I will avenge my father, and I’ll do it most thoroughly.” ” (Act IV, Scene v, l. 133-134). Laertes fights Hamlet the murderer of Hamlet’s father with his sword in order to avenge him. Hamlet’s old friend Laertes is also a revenge-seeking character.

Laertes’ decision leads him to kill himself before Hamlet. He would have lived if he hadn’t wanted to get revenge on his father. Ophelia, like all young girls, was very dependent on her dad. She adored and respected him much more than he cherished her. Polonius was concerned about Ophelia and Hamlet’s relationship, so he ordered her to stay away from him. She followed his order. Ophelia had always been influenced by her father’s decisions. So when he passed away, she became insane. Horatio demonstrates her grief by saying, “She speaks a lot about her father and says that she’s heard of tricks in the World, while heming and beating her heart. ” (Act IV, Scene V, l. 4-5). Ophelia lost her mind and identity, just like a baby puppy who had lost its mother.

Gertrude shows that Gertrude is no longer able to look after herself. ” (Act IV. Scene vii, l. 180). Her relationship led her to madness and eventually drowning in a brook. No matter how much it may be denied, parents are the biggest role models for children. Shakespeare’s Hamlet illustrates this with the changes in Hamlet’s thoughts after the death his father. Hamlet drinks poison on his mother to cause both their deaths. Hamlet also hates Claudius after he killed his father. Laertes also shows this by choosing revenge and friendship over Ophelia’s death. This parent-child relationship complicates the plot, but it is also what makes the play one of Shakespeare’s best.
